• 12/30/25For a $75 New Yorker Sushi, $30 Futomaki Roll the packaging is and looks cheap. Look to Joji, Nobu, Blue Ribbon for better presentation. But worse than packaging is the taste and texture. The sushi (that's only the rice part of the nigiri) is not of good quality Japanese rice. Nigiri sushi is supposed to have stickiness to the rice. These kernels of rice separate immediately when reaching one's mouth in a bad way. It is also rather dry and semi hard (think Italian al-dents.) There are many other places where you can get a better quality sushi for the price. Nobu's Sushi selection ($54 lunch or $68 dinner) is much better than these. The Miso Soup is bland. I'm disappointed, because this restaurant is highly recommended by a few Japanese friends. I myself have lived in Japan for a decade, and this proves disappointing. Perhaps they have an off day for sushi. On the other hand, the Nippon Original Beef Curry and Oshinko fare much better. This is my first ever ordering from this restaurant, and usually I would wait until a second or third try before reviewing; but am not about to sink in $100+ for another round of inferior nigirizushi. I would not order again, at least not the sushi.
